Links are short posts of one or two paragraphs which simply share an interesting link with brief commentary. Entries are longer prose pieces of at least 300 words. If you subscribe to everything, you'll get everything I publish, including approximately one entry and five links a week. Comments are not included in the everything feed. Forty-five years ago, a great bit of history was made. Eight years ago, we saw a different sort of history. That history didn’t turn out so well.

Tomorrow, history will be made. The only question left is what sort of history it will be.

Today, I didn’t have school. School was closed in honor of a great moment in history, and the man who inspired it.

Tomorrow, history will be made. While it is made, I will be taking my math exam. I will be able to tell my grandchildren about quadratic formulas.

It’s most certainly a historic event. I honestly didn’t expect to ever see a black president, and it is a huge symbolic victory for the country, despite whatever hundreds of hesitations I have about Obama and the system of government he has been elected through. I didn’t vote for him (I was a lukewarm Green Party ticket supporter), but of the two choices we were given, I’m glad he won. You know, it is okay to skip a day or two (or three) of school for more important things. Don’t let chasing a slip of paper interfere with what you want in life, and what’s important to you.

Agreed. Take the day off. It’s worth it.

@spgreenlaw: You’re truly an anarchist to the core, aren’t you.

My parents aren’t too keen about me skipping exams. But if I finish early I’m going to try to:

  1. Get out of class (a teacher who won’t let me out for this doesn’t deserve the title)
  2. Watch it (somehow) on my iPhone

Other ideas?

I’m more of a flip-flopping, wimpy sort of anarchist, really. I’ve got more Chomsky than Bakunin in me. :P Good luck with however you go about watching it. If all else fails, there will be plenty of footage floating around TV and the web. … Or, you could always organize a student takeover of your school. Joking, joking. Sort of.

Learners at my school had similar misfortunes. Why is it people don’t see history when it is being made. Okay, obvious answer. But this was monumental. Shame what learners who didn’t see it missed…………

I’m sorry you had the exam. I heard about this everywhere. We took the time in my school to split kids into different teams to monitor various media outlets and did some live blogging. I know this was a momentous occasion and my 5th-8th graders should be able to remember their first cognizant Inaugural event. Glad to see you again, buddy!
